Preservation Pedal

The Preservation Pedal is the annual bicycle tour sponsored by Preservation Kentucky. Each year a different Kentucky community’s unique heritage is highlighted by cycling routes that showcase its delightful historic downtown and/or its spectacular rural landscape. The Preservation Pedal not only puts a spotlight on the Commonwealth’s beauty and charm, it also promotes heritage tourism, the importance of historic preservation to community identity, and supports local businesses. All proceeds assist Preservation Kentucky in furthering our mission to promote historic preservation through education and advocacy.
The 2014 Preservation Pedal will be held in Winchester and Clark County on Saturday June 21, 2014. All rides will begin and end in Winchester’s beautiful Courthouse Square. With four route options, we have something for everyone!
Route options available for the 2014 Preservation Pedal include a Century Ride, Half Century Ride, Quarter Century Ride, and a downtown ride.
The Downtown Ride highlights the The Winchester Alley Tour, which was designed to take riders by local landmarks in the downtown area and several country stores, while avoiding dangerous intersections and heavily trafficked areas. This guided ride will be led by a knowledgeable local historian and is perfect for families, beginning riders, and history buffs. It truly proves that cycling can be safe and fun!
The River Route or Quarter Century Ride provides a moderate challenge for the casual cyclist and a relaxed ride for the more experienced. Beginning downtown, the route meanders south to the Kentucky River, follows along its verdant banks for a time, and then heads back north for a downtown finish.
The Half Century Route is an intermediate ride. It heads northwest out of downtown toward historic Paris, Ky. It takes in picturesque creek views and rich farmland, as well as numerous historic sites.
Our Century Ride is our most challenging route. It explores downtown Winchester and southwest Clark County before heading north toward historic Bourbon County. It takes in a host of historical sites, beautiful pastoral farmland and breathtaking natural scenery.
The Preservation Pedal is one of four premier cycling events that make up the Kentucky Century Challenge. Ride all four and earn a free jersey! Learn more about the Challenge here! Registration OPEN NOW! Early bird registration is only $35! Hurry and register for this low price.
Lunch will be provided with all Preservation Pedal tours. Rest stops will include access to snacks and drinks (including pickles and chocolate milk!), as well as restrooms. All riders will be required to wear a temporary ride identification bracelet. This will be your admission ticket to the rest stops, lunches, and SAG support. Any rider without an official ride bracelet will not be afforded ride benefits, including rest stop and lunch entry.
A free t-shirt is included with every registration. Keep your eyes peeled for the design reveal! The rides will be held rain or shine.

Beer Cheese Festival

Winchester, KY is proud to host the 6th Annual Beer Cheese Festival in our historic downtown district the second weekend in June! Last year over 8,000 people packed the streets of downtown to sample beer cheese, listen to live music, eat great food, and shop from the vendors! This year you can expect more beer cheese, more music, more food, more arts and crafts, and more FUN! 2014 6th Annual Beer Cheese Festival is excited to welcome Grayson Jenkins as music entertainment to this year’s festival!
Beer Cheese dates back to the 1940’s in Clark Co. when it is believed to first be made by Joe Allman for his cousin, John Allman’s, restaurants on the Kentucky River. Since then people have fallen for this delicious spread that goes great on carrots, celery, crackers, or anything you want! Now you can find Beer Cheese on the menu at many restaurants and you can even pick up a tub from local stores. See you downtown!
